Spirituality
I always fear uttering the word "spirituality"; it's a term that feels very "New Age"...
...something that seems to be associated with yoga, fragrant incenses, and the "rediscovery of one's intestinal regularity"...
But what does "spiritual" mean?
And what is the "spirit"? Is it synonymous with the "soul"?
Then why does Saint Paul speak of "spirit, soul, and body" as if they were three different things? (cf. 1 Thessalonians 5:23)
As we approach the dawn of the third millennium, should we not cease using a somewhat naive adjective like "spiritual" and replace it with "psychological"?
Or perhaps, on the contrary, should we reclaim a word that denotes something real but is distinct from the psyche?
